You can’t picture Dilwali without its glitz, glam and gloriousness. Other than the mouth-watering foods that will be served throughout the day, the only part that we (I mean, most girls) look forward to, is obviously the #OOTD’s session. And since last year’s celebration was a total bummer due to the pandemic situation that we faced, it’s safe to say that we’re going on big for this year’s Dilwali—given that some of us had done our duty for being a responsible citizen and getting ourselves vaccinated. But please, watch out for the SOP’s.

Of course when it comes to the beauty department, you will need to bring those shimmery, long-lasting and sweat-proof products to the forefront. And if you need more inspiration and quick hacks to keep your makeup at bay, you know you have to the right time. Beauty Insider made your celebration easier by listing out some approved tips by the experts for a long-lasting makeup look that won’t sweat away even if you chose to conduct your photo op outdoors!

Simple FYI For Long Wearing Makeup

Dilwali is significant to colours, right? And as much as you want to go full rainbows this festive season, bear in mind that when it comes to ‘’camera ready’’ look always starts with a good base. In short, you’ll be needing a full throttle of lightweight, sweat proof and hard-wearing formula that will help your makeup last through the day, and most importantly, stand out in photos.

Start With A Clean Canvas

Picture a good painting. How do one ensure they’ll come up with a good painting if the canvas ain’t smooth? Same technique here. You will need (let me say that again, need) to cleanse and smooth out your base before applying any products. Always make sure that you have fully cleanse, tone, moisturize and layer some good face primer to ensure a good exfoliation and eliminate any dead skin cells. If you have any face mist in your drawer, better spritz some on top as well. Most face mist are packed with skin-nourishment ingredients for a quick ‘’wake up call’’ to your appearance. No one wants to look somber in pictures, right? And given that we live in a humid, hot sunny-weather, it is best for you to at least stay away from any products that have  alpha-hydroxy or beta-hydroxy acids inside. The elements can cause your face to look rough, produce more sebum and result in a visible texture. For primer, find something that leans more towards water-based or lightweight products that contain full-throttle of SPF 50.

Say No To Dark-Smokey Look

Tbh, a smokey eye look looks good for a night event but if for a day celebration under a bright sun? Um, it’s a no-no. Even if it comes out perfectly minutes after, those shadows tend to smudge after a few hours of application due hot sunny weather, handicapping your look and overall sinking your whole appearance. So always go for a lightweight, natural eye look when it comes to daylight occasions. Save those heavy shadows at night.

Back To Bronze

Now, onto bronzing. The main point of bronzing is to fake that sun-kissed look on your skin. So, please don’t swap it all over your face. Similar to contouring, bronzer should be applied anywhere around your cheek, forehead and jawline. However, instead of focusing on toning down your face, focus on adding warm colours onto your face. We suggest applying on the spot as your blusher. Just a perfect spot for a sun-kissed look. Read all about it here: PSA Ladies, This Is Your Ultimate Guide To Bronzing Vs. Contouring.

If you’re prone to oily—or combination skin—like me, you can make your bronzer stay put on your skin by implementing the ‘’layering’’ technique. What are they? First, swipe a cream or stick bronzer on places that needed to be sculpted, blend it all first, and then cover the perimeter using a powder-based bronzer. Make sure your powder is one shade lighter than your actual skin tones, you need to avoid a cakey look. Read further: How To Bronze Your Face The Right Way—According To Beyonce’s MUA, Sir John

Always Seal With A Powder

Just like your bronzer, your whole face will also need a good powder on top to secure the underneath products. If you’re facing an acne skin type, you’ll be needing a good compact powder or sebum-control powder ready in your bag. The moment you start to feel those unwanted sebum overwhelming your skin, apply powder ASAP, but don’t overdo it. You don’t want a cakey look, but more like smoothen up. Invest in a good blotting powder, seriously, your skin will thank you.
