Whether it’s hacks or tips, Beauty Insider is here to uncover the secrets of how to use baby powder to enhance our makeup looks! So what are you waiting for, let’s explore this new hack together!

The Main Hack – Baby Powder As Setting Powder

So, the main hack everyone is talking about is using baby powder as setting powder. Well, we guess that could work. Seeing as they are both powders and are technically super similar? Well, the first question everyone has whenever a new beauty trend pops up, is if it is actually suitable for use on the face?  As for baby powder, the answer is yes and no.

Yes – because it is an alternative to setting powder. A great starter for beginners who are trying out makeup and don’t have setting powder on their hands to follow a makeup tutorial. It’s also way more affordable than setting powder, so we get why many would lean towards this makeup hack!

No – because baby powder wasn’t made for makeup purposes! Besides that, baby powder contains talcum powder which can be fatal for your lungs if you continuously breathe it in. Besides that, baby powder also contains Abestos, which can allegedly cause cancer. With claims of both lung problems and cancer, it may not be the best choice to use.

How To Use Baby Powder As Setting Powder

If you’ve read this far and haven’t reconsidered, who are we to stop you! Although it isn’t recommended to use baby powder with makeup, you still can if you want to. Just proceed with caution and maybe only use it when you absolutely need to! As far as how to use it, here is a short guide.

1. Moisturise First

Before any makeup application, it’s always a good idea to moisturise your skin. This allows the rest of your products, whether skincare or makeup to absorb much more easily into your skin. After prepping your skin for everything it’s about to absorb, you can go ahead and start your makeup routine!

2. Primer Next

To ensure that your makeup blends seamlessly into your skin, apply some good ole primer! Depending on your skin type, you should get a primer that is suitable for your skin. If you have dry skin, get a hydrating primer. If you have oily skin, get a primer that has the benefits of a mattifying effect and pore-blurring.

3. Makeup Look Time

At this point, you can decide on what makeup look you want to achieve. Do your everyday makeup look, or go for a bold look if you are going out for the night! (Not that you can right now…Stay At Home!). Whether it’s a no-makeup makeup look, or a full-glam look, you won’t miss out on the last step of setting it all in with baby powder.

4. Finish The Look

Don’t worry, we are almost at the finish line! Finish up whichever look you have by contouring, bronzing and highlighting. Apply your final touch of blush and lip product! Check out your brows and make sure they are filled in perfectly and by the way, check in on your eyeliner game as well! Although it isn’t exactly even, at least it looks that way from afar right!

5. Time To Set With Baby Powder

Now, for the risk, you all have been waiting for. Are you ready? Grab your big fluffy brush that is as soft as cotton candy and pack it with baby powder. Tap off some of the excesses, because you don’t want to look like Demi Lovato hiding her identity in Camp Rock! When applying baby powder onto your undereye areas, tap lightly and don’t apply too much. This is because, by the end of the day, the baby powder on this area can crack. After making sure that you have blended everything perfectly, get some setting spray and lock it all in!

Tips For Using It As Setting Powder

1. Get Ahold Of Talc-free Baby Powder

If you’ve gotten this far, you are most probably aware of the risks we mentioned up top. As a reminder, try to look for baby powder’s that DOESN’T include talc in their formula. Since it can be linked to problems with the lungs, it’s best to stay away from this particular ingredient.

2. Retouch Whenever With A Powder Puff

Throughout the day, you may find that your powder might need a bit of a retouch. That’s why you should carry around with you a mini powder puff! That way, you can reapply the powder quickly whenever you catch your T-zone getting oily again. Thus, your face can become matte and fresh again!

3. Wash It Off Before Bed

baby powder

A rule that everyone should be applying, always wash off any makeup products before going to bed! Even with powder, it can seep into your pores if you don’t remove it. This can cause your skin to breakout and even gain blackheads! Not to mention other skin concerns that may occur. Especially to sensitive skins. You don’t want that now, do you?

More Makeup Hacks

Besides using baby powder for makeup hacks such as a replacement for setting powder, there are actually more tips and tricks to it! Here are just a few for you to try!

1. Get Them Barbie Doll Lashes

Wanting to get long and full lashes? All you have to do is apply some baby powder onto your lashes after your mascara! While your first coat of mascara is still wet, use either a disposable mascara wand or cotton swab to apply the baby powder. This small hack can help increase your lashes volume and length. To blend it in, apply a second coat of mascara so the baby powder is sandwiched in between!

2. Longer Lip Colour

Similarly, if you sandwich baby powder in between coats of your lipstick, it can help make the colour last longer! A neat trick is to unfold a tissue until it’s at its thinnest and place it on your lips. Then, use your blusher brush to apply the baby powder onto the tissue with your lips. Acting as a filter, this helps you achieve long-lasting colour without a cakey residue.

3. Baby Powder For Fuller Brows

If filling in your eyebrows isn’t enough to make it look plump, add some baby powder to it! A little goes a long way as all you need is a tiny sprinkle. Like icing on a cake! Make sure your brows have been filled in with whatever it is you use, i.e. an eyebrow pencil, gel or powder.
