Tangle Teezer

Shaun P’s career in hairdressing began in 1978 with an apprenticeship at Glemby International Salon in Grimsby before heading over to Manchester in the year 1980 to work for Pierre Alexandre. In 1982 he started training in colour at the legendary Vidal Sassoon salon in London before crossing the Atlantic and spending the next 10 years working in Vidal Sassoon salons in New York, LA and Boston.

Feeling homesick, Shaun returned to the UK in 1993 and became Toni & Guy’s Colour Director in Manchester. But in 1996 he returned to London for Nicky Clarke’s salon and then to Richard Ward’s in 1998.

After over 20 years of working in salons, he realised the need for a quick and easy hairbrush which detangled hair without the struggle. Shaun had his ‘lightbulb moment’ in the year 2003 and started research and development for the first professional detangling hair tool. The fun brand name came from chatting to a client in the salon chair, as Shaun wanted something short and catchy; changing the spelling to “TEEZER” rather than “TEASER” to add some pizazz and recognition.

And finally in 2007, “The Original” officially launched and was sold in Boots. This was the turning point for the business and in the next 12 months professional and consumer sales in the UK showed rapid growth and Tangle Teezer began exporting brushes worldwide, with 35,000 brushes being sold in the company’s first year.
