Double eyelid surgery is a specific type of cosmetic eyelid surgery in which the creases in the upper eyelids are formed hence creating as though you have double eyelids. Some people are naturally born with visible eyelid creases while some are born without eyelid creases. That’s called a single lid or a monolid.

There’s nothing medically wrong with either apart from the appearance of it both. But if you want to change the appearance of your eyelids, you can go for this aesthetic procedure called blepharoplasty.

Blepharoplasty is the surgery that corrects conditions such as droopy eyelids or eye bags.

What Is The Asian Double Eyelid Blepharoplasty?

There are three major types of eyelid surgery: upper eyelid, lower eyelid and double eyelid surgery, also known as Asian blepharoplasty. Asian blepharoplasty is a specialized cosmetic procedure that focuses on the upper eyelid.

It is a process that can help get rid of the excess skin and fat to create a crease in the upper lid. In Malaysia, upper eyelid surgery is commonly done for beauty purposes as double eyelids give a more appealing appearance. Double eyelids surgery can be done in two ways, incisional and non-incisional techniques.

What Are The Differences Between Incisional and Non- Incisional Procedures?

The incisional method is a good option for those with thick skin around the eyelids area and needs extra skin and excess fat removed. This procedure is permanent and you only need to go in for one treatment so it is irreversible means once done no going back!

After removing the excess muscle and fat tissue, the incisions will be closed with skin glue or stitches. These will then need to be removed 4-5 days after the surgery. With the incisional method, you will get a more symmetrical and precise result.

The non-incisional procedure is called the buried suture technique. It is suitable for people with less fat and muscle tissues around their monolid. This procedure is temporary so you’ll have less scarring as it can be reversed.

Sutures are placed through the punctures and tightened until they form the desired crease. The sutures will remain beneath the skin hence there is no need to have them removed. Because it is temporary and doesn’t cause much scaring, the recovery time is faster compared to the incisional method.

How Much Does Double Eyelid Surgery Cost In Malaysia?

Double eyelid surgery costs in Malaysia varies based on several factors. It mainly depends on which procedure you are going for. The non-incisional procedure is relatively cheaper as it is temporary and would cost you anywhere between RM2000- RM3000.

The incisional cosmetic procedure is more expensive as it is made across the entire eyelid crease would cost around  RM 3500-RM 5000. That’s an average for just the surgery alone.

These numbers do not include the anaesthesia fee, cost of the operating room, the aftercare medications or other related expenses. So, plus all that additional cost the price will likely be higher.

Where To Get Double Eyelid Surgery in Malaysia?

No matter what, do not have a double eyelid surgery done at a beauty salon or spa without the supervision of a proper medical expert. We know, there are so many non-medical services this is evidently offered in Malaysia but they are not safe and can lead to severe damage to your eyes!

Before picking an aesthetic clinic for your desired service, check with the Ministry of Health regarding current areas and clinics where this procedure is allowed to be performed. To help you out, we have gathered a list of six cosmetic clinics in Malaysia that are certified by the Ministry of Health in Malaysia to carry double eyelid surgery.

What Are The Side Effects Of Double Eyelid Surgery?

Like any other cosmetic surgery, double eyelid surgery is not completely safe. It does have side effects. If you’re undergoing the incision procedure, the healing time can last up to two weeks or worst case scenario it could take up to several months to heal completely.

During your recovery period, you also experience swelling and bruising from the incision. While some also may experience bleeding from the incision. Especially if you have dry skin you may also feel slight itchiness and irritation and for some, the eyes will be more sensitive.

These symptoms should be temporary and will go away if you follow the right aftercare treatment. Use cold compresses for the swelling. You can also apply lubricating ointment or any other prescribed medications.

Make sure to wear sunglasses when you’re outside until you’re fully healed. Don’t let your eyes be exposed to the sun. With the non-incisional technique, you can expect a full recovery within two weeks.

For either procedure, follow your doctor’s discharge instructions. Antibiotics may be prescribed to protect against infection. Take them all, even if you feel fully healed. Be sure to report any signs of infection or post-op side effects immediately.

Are There Any Non-Surgical Procedures For Double Eyelids?

Yes, there are a variety of eyelid tapes and eyelids glue sold online and in beauty stores as a way to get double eyelids. You can find them in drugstores or where beauty products are sold.

This stuff may give a temporary eye crease that you want and if you don’t like the result, you can easily remove them but you have to apply them every day and some people can have an allergic reaction that would cause redness and irritation.

If the glue gets in your eyes, it can damage your vision. So, if you are using these products, make sure to wash your hands before applying. Change the eyelid tape every day, and keep the area around your eyes clean.

Stop using immediately if your eyelids become puffy. It is better to talk to your eye doctor before using eyelid tapes and glues. They can give you better advice on or if your eyes become irritated by them.

Final Verdict: Should You Go For Double Eyelid Surgery?

The choice is really you to up. If you feel the need to go for surgery then you can go. Double eyelids are eyelids with visible double creases. Double eyelid surgery is performed to add a crease to the eyelids, usually as a matter of personal preference.

Consult with your eye doctor and a qualified plastic surgeon to discuss the pros and cons and to find out if you’re a good candidate for this procedure. There are also nonsurgical options for creating double eyelids. Keep in mind, there’s nothing medically wrong with double or single eyelids — both are entirely normal.
