For some of us who are a little concerned with the type of chemical ingredients in our skincare, natural ingredients are readily available and are viable alternatives. We could turn to natural ingredients to hydrate dry skin by incorporating them into our skincare routine as a face mask.

Here is a list of natural ingredients we could use as a face mask to hydrate and moisturize our face. They are for dry skin. Oily and combination skin may find some of these ingredients (the fatty and oily ones) too rich and may be concerned with breakouts. For combination skin, avoid the fatty and oiler ingredients on your T-zone.

Avocado

Avocados are rich fatty fruits packed with vitamins and minerals for your skin. Mash up the avocados and use it as a face mask. Leave them on for 10-15 minutes before rinsing them off. They moisturize and nourish your skin.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is at a solid state at room temperature. However, highly processed coconut oils eliminated some of the fatty acids and keep them at liquid form at room temperatures. Look for coconut oils at solid state. Some skincare or body retail outlets carry pure coconut oils.

Coconut oil nourishes and moisturizes dry skin. They contain collagen-supporting lauric acid. The coconut oil will melt back to a liquid form on the skin, so care should be taken against applying too much.

Egg White

Egg white is packed with vitamins, minerals and enzymes. It can promote cell repair, encourages collagen production and promotes elastin. Enzymes help to restrain acne and potassium hydrates dry skin.

Break an egg and separate the egg white from the yolk. Apply the egg white on the skin for about 10-15 minutes before rinsing. Avoid this ingredient if you are (or your skin is) allergic to eggs.

Honey

Honey is a popular ingredient in skincare products. It hydrates the skin and helps to unclog pores and gives a deeper clean. Add a little water if needed. Leave it for 10-15 minutes and rinse off.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera will hydrate the skin without the greasy feeling. Slice away the long side of an aloe vera leaf to get to the gel-like substance. Use the gel-like substance and apply on your face. Leave it on for about 10-15 minutes and rinse off after.

Cucumber

If some of the above ingredients are too rich and you wish to hydrate and make your skin feels soft and fresh, try using cucumbers. They are high in water content, and potassium in the cucumbers help hydrate the skin. They contain vitamin C which encourages new cell growth and brighten skin tone. Peel the cucumber and slice them, layer them on your face. Let them sit for a while, remove and rinse after.
