3. Dior Rose Kabuki
Listen, we saw the price tag of this, too. RM700 for a 40ml bottle? Yikes. However, this seriously smells like a dream. If Venus herself came down to earth to King George, we’d imagine that she’d smell like this. The Rose Kabuki by Dior, albeit has a hefty price tag, is undoubtedly one of the best rose perfumes, period. Its creation is an homage to Kabuki, the traditional Japanese theater, and it shows in its notes of baby powder. The scent is delicate, sweet, and slightly musky, perfect for a girly girl.
Why we love this:
- Has floral and powdery notes
- Bottle can be engraved
- Makes for the perfect gift
Why we don’t love it:
- Extremely pricey
Price: RM700
Where to buy: Dior
Real review:
“So nice, inoffensive rose, with a bit of soft powder. I can totally imagine dew drops in this…Delicate and beautiful.”
Namu1, Fragrantica
4. Chanel Paris
If you’re still looking to splurge on a designer perfume without breaking the bank too much, then Paris by Chanel will be perfect for you. It’s very comparable to Dior’s Rose Kabuki, right down to the pink perfume in a clear glass bottle with a black cap, and it’s a tad bit less expensive. Paris is exactly what it sounds like – it smells like a romanticised version of the beautiful streets and architecture of Paris, minus the haughty people and strange accent. The scent itself is woody and floral, centering around the Damask rose and has notes of fresh lemon and mandarin, spicy notes of pink peppercorn, and a woody heart of patchouli.
Why we love it:
- Long-lasting
- Floral, woodsy, and slightly citrusy
- Evokes memories of Paris
Why we don’t love it:
- Can be underwhelming
Price: RM490
Where to buy: Chanel
Real review:
“I got acquainted with this perfume for the first time after revisiting Paris in the summer of 2022. It is such a beautiful scent, very feminine. It makes me relive the romance I felt in that city exploring alongside someone who calls that city their home.”
LVelkov, Fragrantica
5. L’Occitane Rose Eau De Toilette
We’re still not sure how to pronounce L’Occitane, but one thing is for sure: their Rose Eau De Toilette is one of the best rose perfumes in Malaysia, hands down. It’s long-lasting, very feminine, and doesn’t just straight up smell like you’ve poured a bucket of air sirap on yourself. This EDT is light and airy, and has sweet and fruity notes of lychee and raspberry, and Rosa Damascena as well as Rosa Centifolia floral water from Provence at its heart.
Why we love it:
- Floral, airy, and light
- Very feminine
- Lingers
Why we don’t love it:
- May be too sweet for some
Price: RM280
Where to buy: L’Occitane
Real review:
“An elegant edition to any fragrance collection. The bottle is decorative. It would suit those who lean towards more traditional feminine scents.”
Tashi Jade Bell, personal blog
6. Maison Margiela Replica On A Date Eau De Toilette
Of course, you can absolutely turn to Maison Margiela when you need a signature scent, and On A Date could be the perfect one for you. It’s everything you need in a scent; citrus and fruity, earthy and woody, floral, and warm and spicy, and somehow you can smell everything all at once without it being overpowering. Its top notes are of roses and grapes, with middle notes of bergamot and blackcurrant liquor. The creator of this scent, Carlos Benaïmwas, was inspired by his own childhood memories of Provence, and you’re sure to find yourself there when you get a whiff of this, even if you’ve never been.
Why we love it:
- Very full-bodied
- Unisex
- Long-lasting
Why we don’t love it:
- Some compare this scent to that of cleaning products
Price: RM355
