The bleaching process is drying to your hair. It is important to take care of your hair after bleaching to prolong the colour and avoid your hair drying out. The process could also weaken the hair, causing it to be brittle, prone to breakage and split ends.

The main aim is to keep the hair moisturized and prevent further damage. Here are some steps you can take to care for your bleached hair:

Use Sulfate-Free Shampoos

Avoid harsh shampoos, especially products with sulfate. We do not want to further strip our hair from natural oils and dries it more. Sulfate is a compound of sodium, which will dry out hair. Also, avoid salt sprays as a styling product.

Use Purple Shampoo

Hair could turn brassy after bleaching if it is not well taken care of. Use a purple shampoo to balance back the tones.

Avoid everyday washing of hair

Regular hair washing strips it from natural oils, making it dry. Aim for a wash every 3 days.

Conditioner

Use a conditioner after every hair wash to keep your hair from being dry.

Use Oil Conditioning Products

Oil helps to replenish lost moisture to your hair. You can choose leave-in-hair oil or oil treatment. The best oils to use for your bleached hair are coconut oil and argan oil.

Leave-in Conditioner

Leave-in conditioners will further help keep the hair moisturized.

Avoid Heat Styling Tools

Stay away from curling irons and flat irons. They operate on high temperatures and will further damage your weaker hair. A hairdryer, on the other hand, is kept at a distance from the hair. They are less damaging then curling and flat irons which touch the hair. Use a low-temperature setting on the hairdryer, or keep it a little distance away from hair.

Protect from Sun Exposure

Avoid sun exposure as it can dry out your hair. To protect from the sun, either use a hat to keep the hair from direct exposure under the sun or use a UV protectant product on your hair.

Regular Trim

As bleached hair is prone to split ends, get regular trimmings to help avoid the issue. Schedule a trim 3 weeks after bleaching your hair. Then, book appointments after every 4-6 weeks, depending on your hair condition and length.
