Hari Raya is fast approaching. The challenge is to keep makeup from melting during all the visitations and festivities amid the hot hot Malaysian weather. We have put together a list of makeup tips to help:

Prep Skin

The first and important step is to prep your skin. On cleaned face, put on a thin layer of a light oil-free moisturizer to hydrate your skin.

Primer

Primer helps! Silicone primers will be more effective here as they inhibit oil in the skin from breaking down the makeup. (For more on silicone-based primers vs water-based primers, check out our article “The remarkable primers – colour correcting primers and the colour wheel”)

Serum control is the key. Face oils will more likely to mess up your makeup then sweat. Pick a silicone-based mattifying primer to provide a smooth based for you to work with and to make your makeup last longer.

Use another primer designed specifically for the eyes for your eye makeup.

Light oil free foundation

Aim for sheer layers. For foundation, put on a lightweight sheer layer of an oil-free foundation.

Waterproof Makeup

Opt for waterproof eyeliner and mascara. They will stay on longer than the normal types. For our recommendations on waterproof mascaras and eyeliners that are effective, click here.

Makeup

Avoid shimmers, they are difficult to maintain and the shine can look oily. You could try the trending no-makeup makeup look. Or natural makeup with a pop of colour on one feature, say a bold lip colour or bold eye colour makeup. Use long wear products.

Minimize the use of powders, they can be clingy and cakes up. Switch from a powder blush to a cheek tint.

Setting Spray

Finish with a setting spray to lock everything in place. Choose a setting spray over setting powders.

Blotting Papers

Keep a travel touch-up kit in your bag. Load up on blotting papers to remove the shine on your face on-to-go. Bring the lip colour or any eye makeup you are using for touch-ups during the day.
