The struggle we all have with our eyebrows is VERY real. The sad truth is, not all of us are born with full and beautiful eyebrows! If only right!

Moving on, we are confident that most of you, including us, have trouble when it comes to shaping our eyebrows. Not only during the crucial plucking process but during the makeup process as well!

Especially for beginners, this can be a scary approach.

The Different Eyebrow Shapes

Before you start shaping your eyebrows, you need to decide what shape you want! Maybe you’re just trimming off excess hairs and you already know your shape. That’s great!

For those that don’t, here’s a little guide on what type of eyebrows you can achieve. Now, there are 6 main categories of eyebrow shapes and they are – soft-angled, hard-angled, rounded, straight or S-shaped.

Besides choosing the eyebrow shape that matches your natural brow contour the most, you also need to consider your face shape!

What Eyebrow Shape Should You Have?

If you know face shapes, you already know that the most desirable face shape is the oval face shape! That is because it tends to be the most compatible with any style. Whether it’s eyebrows, hair or glasses.

For those with a rounder face shape, make sure that your eyebrows are not too thick or thin. Your best bet is to find the balance in between! Try to get the tail and beginning of your eyebrow to line up, then add an arch in between.

If you have a longer face shape, you can opt for the eyebrow shape that is slightly thicker, but not too arched. Think of Korean straight brows! That might suit you best.

Eyebrow Mapping

The easiest way to get the gist of where your eyebrows should land, is by mapping it out. With eyebrow mapping, there are three points that you should use to create your guideline. The three points that you should be focusing on are the beginning, the arch and the end.

To figure out where your eyebrow should start, pick up your eyebrow pencil and line it by the side of your nose. Make sure it’s straight and follow the inner corner of your eye. Past that point is where your eyebrow should start! Mark that position and we are going to find the highest point of your brow next!

Still, with the pencil against the side of your nose, angle it through your iris. Follow the point straight through to the tip of your brow bone.

This will be where your arch is if you are looking to arch your eyebrows. If you are going for a straight brow instead, lower the point down so it sits right above your eyebrow.

Lastly, you’ll need to find the end of your eyebrow. With the pencil still pressed to the side of your nose, angle it to the outer corner of your eye. Follow through and mark the position that is in line with your eyebrow.

You have now finished mapping your eyebrow! This is a great technique for when you are plucking and drawing your eyebrows.

Shaping Thick Eyebrows

We know a lot of people envy those that are born with thick eyebrows. But, some might think it as a curse too! Although some may have full and thick brows, they may have an undefined shape that can be messy too.

That is why grooming is a necessity because it might look bushy instead of chic. After mapping out your eyebrows, you can start plucking and removing all the excess hairs that aren’t within your new guideline! Starting from the beginning of your brows and moving backwards.

As long as you pluck everything outside of your guideline, you should be able to achieve a cleaner and neater appearance!

Shaping Thin Eyebrows

For those with thin eyebrows, it may be a result of over-plucking! If not, a thin brow allows you more wiggle room to fill it into any shape you want.

Instead of leaving your eyebrows unkempt, make sure to groom them carefully so they look much neater. Using some eyebrow gel is a great way to keep your eyebrow hairs flat while you pluck.

Make sure to pluck below your eyebrows to get rid of long and stray strands. After cleaning it up, you can go about your day and fill in your brows to achieve thicker-looking brows! Or, fill it in any shape you want if you are keen on experimenting with different shapes.

Methods To Remove Eyebrow Hair

If you are thinking about trimming your eyebrows after shaping them, here are three methods you can try! Some people prefer one to the other while others find that one method may irritate their skin.

Waxing

Waxing is probably the most common hair removal technique many people go for. Not only does it help pluck out several hairs at a time, it also provides a clean and longer-lasting result!

It also gives the most defined shape and works best for those that have naturally thick eyebrows. But, since you are using wax on a small area of your face, it’s pretty easy to make mistakes when doing it on your own. Thus, you may want to practice a little more before doing it on yourself. Or the safer way is to go to a professional instead!

Plucking

The most used method for everyone at home is using tweezers to pluck out each strand one by one! Even if you have a great experience with tweezers, there are times where mistakes can be made.

It can be hard to achieve the perfect shape when you are plucking. There are definitely risks of overplucking! The best way to ensure minimal error is to map out your brows and fill them in so you have a clear outline of where to pluck!

Although this method can be time-consuming, it works well for those that only have little strands to fix.

Threading

Eyebrow threading is probably the most intimidating method of trimming your eyebrows. What many don’t realise is that it’s actually a really easy method!

Using small and twisted cotton threads, this method is way more precise at pulling out strands of hair. It is usually less painful and plucks in a smooth and straight line. Not only is this method cheaper than the other two, it is also a much faster method too!

Although, mastering this technique could take a while to learn. So, it is best to take things slow if it is your first time threading your eyebrows!
