We all love everything that has to do with Korea. Whether it is their music, their movies, television shows, skincare or makeup, we love it all. We are obsessed with all things Korean and K-beauty is no exception. Besides being addicted to BTS and Squid Game, there are quite a few Korean makeup techniques and trends that are incredibly helpful. From what we’ve seen through the media, Korean makeup techniques are mostly on the softer side. While the Western side of makeup tends to go big or go home, Korean makeup leans more towards soft glam. With straight brows and gradient lips, instead of smokey eyes and contoured cheeks. So, here are some Korean makeup trends that Beauty Insider thinks everyone should give a shot.

10 Korean Makeup Trends

1. Korean Glass Skin

Glass skin is a beauty trend that emerged from Korea a few years back. Ever since, people have been obsessed with recreating the glass skin flawless look. In order to achieve the perfect glass skin, skincare is an important part. This is a makeup trend that cannot be achieved with concealer and foundation. Once you have achieved glass skin, your makeup will definitely look flawless no matter what look you decide to do. It is also considered a pre-makeup skin prep where you exfoliate and layer hydrating and lightweight skincare products. Thus, creating a naturally glowing and smooth skin complexion.

2. Korean Flawless Skin Texture

Once you have your perfect base, you want to create a flawless skin texture as well. You don’t want cakey makeup that cracks and protrudes right? To achieve this, all you need is a concealer and cushion foundation. This is an easy Korean makeup look even for beginners. With your concealer, you want to cover up all your blemishes and dark spots. Then, dab on the cushion foundation gently. The main point for this Korean makeup technique is to NOT use too much foundation. It should be a thin layer, if not you’ll get a cakey look.

3. Korean Glitter Eyeshadow

To add a little dramatic flair to your eyes, this Korean makeup technique asks you to use shimmery and glittery products on your lids. A touch of glitter can really draw attention to your eyes and even help you achieve a much youthful look. But, too much glitter is not a good idea. It can look gaudy. So, beware of how much you are applying to your eyelids! Just a dab of shimmery eyeshadow should be enough to make your eyes shine. Don’t know which glittery eyeshadow to use? Just choose from the wide range of Korean eyeshadows available on the Korean beauty market!

4. Korean Puppy Eyeliner

While Western makeup favours long and bold eyeliner looks like the cat wing, Korean makeup trends favour a puppy eyeliner look. Instead of angling upwards to elongate your eyes, This Korean makeup technique follows the natural downward slope of your eye. By doing so, you actually make your eyes look bigger too! Rounder eyes also give off a more youthful look and are favourable among Asians.

5. Aegyo Sal

An Aegyo Sal is the little muscle area underneath your eye that pops. Koreans love to make their Aegyo Sal more noticeable as it makes you appear much cuter and youthful. If yours isn’t very prominent, this Korean makeup technique will help enhance that! Add a bit of concealer onto your under eye and apply a light pinkish shadow onto it. To really bring out your Aegyo Sal, create dimension by drawing shadows under it. Going back and forth with a small eyeshadow brush should do the trick. Adding a touch of glitter on your inner corners can also make your eyes pop more.

6. Long and Separated Eyelashes

Korean makeup trends are shining a light on long and separated eyelashes. Instead of clumpy lashes and too much mascara, this trick can help separate them in a jiffy! Piling on your mascara can lead to fuzzy lashes. So, get your eyelash curler out and your spoolie at the ready. Curl your lashes and brush them out carefully with your spoolie. Then, apply your mascara and before it dries out, use tweezers to clump lashes that grow in the same direction together.

7. Soft Straight Brows With Hair Stroke

Westerners are all about the angled and thick brows. Korean makeup likes to keep brows soft and straight. Fill your brows from the middle and avoid using too much product on the front of your brows. This allows you to maintain a softer and subtle eyebrow look. Be sure to brush your eyebrow hairs with a rounded spoolie to achieve more texture. A tip is to apply eyebrow mascara to the beginning of your brows for that hair stroke look.

8. Korean Gradient Lips

Korean makeup is not without its staple gradient lips. This lip look gives a “just bitten” effect that starts with a darker centre and fades out to create a gradient look. It is an easy way to create a natural look that also appears youthful. There are many ways to recreate this look, but the easiest is by using a lip tint! All you need to do is apply the tint onto the centre of your lips and smudge it out with a Q-tip.

9. Soft Blush

A soft blush will bring together your makeup look very easily. It looks much more youthful and natural compared to a strong colour of blush. Blusher shades such as coral, beige and rosy pink are go-to’s for most. Depending on your skin’s undertone, you can opt for cooler or warmer shades. Korean makeup techniques would want you to place your blusher under your eye to create the illusion of plumper and higher cheekbones.

10. Slight Contour

Korean makeup is also leaning towards contouring the face. But, they do so in a much subtler technique. The subtle contouring makes the face look slimmer and shorter, so that it looks natural. Contouring your nose, face line, under your chin and even hairline is highly suggested.
