Insider Trends: The Most Memorable Makeup Looks From #BETAwards2021

The 2021 BET Awards are here! Hosted by the talented actress, Taraji P. Henson on June 27, the show was celebrated to honour some of Hollywood’s biggest black entertainers over the past year. Names like Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, DJ Khaled, and H.E.R., took the stage to graciously perform their famous hits.

And while the night was jam-packed with performances by our favourite black celebs, our eyes were also, definitely, glued to the hair and makeup looks of the evening. Throughout the BET Awards’ 21-year history, our favorite celebrities have always shown up to the function with the most jaw-dropping beauty looks. This year was no different. 

The ladies came in full swing for the big event—the hair and makeup on the red carpet and for performances are all about sleek, ’90s-inspired aesthetics, complete with pastel eyes shades, ombré lips, and bedazzled baby hairs.

1. Chloe Bailey

One half of the Chloe + Halle duo, Chloe Bailey looks absolutely stunning with her spiral locks gathered into a loose bun on the top of her head, fully showcasing the edginess of her makeup. Chloe’s brows were drawn into a straight shape with sharp tails while her lashes were amped up with spiked falsies.  

2. Saweetie 

Ooo-kay! Saweetie has never failed to feed us with her glam looks but for tonight’s awards show she really went extra. The rapper chose an Arabian Nights theme for her red carpet look. Her hair was coiled into a bun with slicked-up baby hairs, while her makeup artist amazingly arched her brows to frame her champagne smokey eyes. 

3. H.E.R

Not only does she have a pretty voice, but she has a pretty-good sense choosing the right look as well! H.E.R.’s makeup artist swept a soft pastel emerald shade onto the singer’s lids into a winged shape ahead of BET Awards performance. Plus, H.E.R. kept her hair lengthy and luscious as usual but added deep, side-parted bangs and some glamorous waves. 

4. Taraji P. Henson

The hostess herself did not skimp on inches. Her silky straight wig, which we’re sure is the first of many for the award show, grazed her thighs with a middle part. The actress’s nails are equally as extensive with pointed talon-like tips adorned with gems. 

5. Mereba

The talented singer is no stranger to wearing masterpieces on her head. For tonight’s show, Mereba’s hair stylist went through hoops to make our jaws drop—pun intended. She tops it with large hair-wrapped loops and tree branch-like braids. However, those who haven’t yet caught onto Mereba are sure to take this complex, braided look as a grand introduction. Also, p/s checkout the gilded inner corners of her eyes while you’re at it. 

6. Latto 

Latto definitely knows how to have fun when it comes to vibrant hair color. The newcomer rapper’s lavender tresses were one of the standout hair looks of the night. Her pastel tresses were styled into cascading body waves—making us want to purchase a wig now.

7. Coi Leray

The Best New Artist nominee made a statement on the red carpet with her ’90s-inspired braids. We’re getting major TLC vibes with her fun cut out outfit, swirly braids, and curled ends. To complete her looks, she paired it with soft coral eye makeup and dramatically long lashes. 

8. Megan Thee Stallion

Our hot girl Meg gives us a major goddess glow with her appearance. Graphic smokey eyes, ombré lips, and sleek, middle-parted hair, not to mention those ice drip necklace splurging around her neck! A serious glam was guaranteed. 

9. Eva Mercille

Talking about something different. America’s Next Top Model alum Eva Marcille somehow made the wispy baby hairs we typically try to tamp down on humid days look absolutely elegant with her cream headwrap, hoop earrings, and flushed cheeks. Effortlessly charming. 

10. Sevyn Streeter 

OK listen—this might be our fave look from all of the above! Sevyn’s appearance on the red carpet was exquisite with her head wrap made out of the same material as her daring dress. To pair up with her makeup which was icy blue smokey eyes with a little extra silver packed on the inner corners of her eyes for extra luminosity. Her lips on the other hand, were topped with chocolate-brown liner and nude-pink gloss for a throwback ombré look.
