Outfit checked. Camera checked. Jewelleries checked. Now what’s left is the choices of makeup you’d wear on the first day of Eid. There’s a time (and places) where sculpted cheekbones, bold coloured lips and triple layered eyeshadows are accepted—and honestly speaking, Hari Raya is not appropriate for all those fussy looks.

Because judging by the amount of food we eat and those teary moments we share between our loved ones, it’s just gonna ruin our makeup even more. Who even has time to fix smudged products off our faces? So we suggest you opt for a little more toned down look. Or shall we say, soft glam makeup—the milder stepsister of full-glam makeup.

Soft glam is still glam at its foundation, but it’s done in a lighter, airier, and softer way. Think of a Kim K look but we tone down the amount of bronzer applied. To help you celebrate Hari Raya like a true A-list celeb, Beauty Insider gathers some of the soft glam looks you can copy.

1. One-Coloured Liner

Thank god, this is still an ongoing trend. The focus here is more towards your liner and less on the face. We suggest you make a floating liner crease in the same colour as your Raya outfit. Maintain a smooth complexion, lashes and brows, and let your liner do all the talking.

2. Focus On Highlights

Instead of over-sculpting your face with deep coloured bronzer and blushes, lean more towards highlighting the higher points of your bones. Use your fingers to apply your highlights, such as cream products, to help melt the ingredients into your skin for a smoother, more seamless look.

3. Monochromatic Soft Looks

For those of you who never learned how to apply the vivid, glittering eyeshadows in your palette, there’s good news: soft glam makeup is all about subdued tones, neutral colours, and matte finishes. Always choose monochrome over dramatic. Keep all of your hues in the same colour family for a delicate, not a powerful, effect.

4. Soft Bronze

This look will never go out of style. It’s an evergreen makeup look. Halo eye makeup is a foolproof technique to make your eyes stand out (while also making them appear bigger and rounder). This one eyeshadow trend is carefully applying a light makeup colour in the centre of the lids and between two darker tones.

5. Ultimate No Makeup Look

You don’t have to actually go bare-faced for a soft glam makeup look. A full-coverage foundation may still be used to get a softer appearance; simply maintain the coverage where you need it and apply a few highlights around your cheekbones to make your cheeks stand out.

6. Fluttery Lashes

Another technique to accentuate your eyes for a more ethereal appearance? Leave out the liner and let your lashes take centre stage. Instead of using harsh eyeshadows, we choose to emphasise the lashes with mascara for delicate glam eye makeup. A basic foundation, blush, and bronzer would do for the remainder of your face’s perimeter.

7. Sharp Liner + Nude Gloss

The soft-glam counterpart to a super-glam cat eye? Liner with a diffused wing. To smudge your liquid liner, use a dark hue from your eyeshadow palette with an angled eyeliner brush or a pencil eyeliner with a tiny dense brush. Combine it with a lip gloss in a neutral colour. You’ll appear to be a goddess!
