For those of you ladies living in Kuala Lumpur, I bet you’ve heard of The Met Grand Hair Salon. Internationally known for their luxury, elegance and sophistication, The Met Grand Salon is one of the most coveted hair salons in Kuala Lumpur. Mainly because they are one of the few if not the only hair salon to use and utilise the luxurious French fashion house, Balmain’s range of Hair Couture products.

I finally stepped foot into their salon for the first time, and the whole experience was truly remarkable. What came to surprise me is that The Met Grand Salon brand has been around for 10 years! But don’t fall for it, their current team are young and provides personalised treatments with detailed consultations, especially if you are doing colour.

I, the Senior Writer for Beauty Insider Malaysia went into their salon a couple of weeks and tried their manicure, Scalp Treatment and also went in for the coveted Balayage hair job. Before, we jump to the review let me just be clear these treatments weren’t cheap!! But were they worth the price? Well, continue reading to find out more.

Who Are The Met Grand Hair Salon?

the met grand salon review

Only utilising Philip B Botanical for all of their in-house services, The Met is regarded as one of the finest hair salons in Malaysia. The salon is home to some of the most experienced senior industry professionals and international educators who can create any hairstyles and designs that are personal to the preference of your individual wants and needs.

Personally, I think the best part of the salon is its location which is convenient and accessible. They are also very meticulous in terms of their haircare choices as they want to keep up to ‘luxury’ offerings in the city. Top-notch technologies are also another stand out point of the salon. Equipment like infra-red blow driers and therapy lamps are used as part of their treatments, which you don’t often see in your regular hair salons.

How’s The Ambience of The Salon?

Honestly, there’s only one word to describe it POSH! Walking into the salon feels like you are entering some high-end fashion event. It’s gold, yellow and feels very royal! However, the treatment area is pretty small as they only have three rolling chairs but it doesn’t get crampy in the salon as they only take in customers to prior bookings. Each treatment space features a huge vanity mirror and side tables where you can leave your bag and even charge your phone (like I did, haha!!!)

Despite being very chic the salon is actually pretty cosy and comfortable. All of the staffs are super friendly, warm and welcoming. I was even offered some tea while waiting for my turn. Also, while waiting you can walk around their salon and gaze through their extensive range of soap collections and other beauty products. All of which is super-exclusive and worth the buy.

Were The Treatments Good For The Given Prices?

Okay, let I said earlier the treatments are not cheap ( I spent to close to RM800) but let’s leave the pricing aside and talk about the services and treatment sets. I went in for three of the salon’s coveted treatments and below I’ve broken down my experience with each treatment in more details.

1. Manicure

The best part of the manicure treatment is definitely the manicurist. She was so pleasant and sweet. However, as for the treatment is pretty basic. They didn’t have many colour choices nor offer any intriguing designs. Nevertheless, it was a good pampering session where I just sat and relax in their comfy leather couch while sipping on my soothing green tea.

2. Olaplex Treatment

For those of you that don’t know, Olaplex treatment is a hair treatment that focuses on rebuilding damaged hair from a chemical process. If you’ve over-bleached or had your hair highlighted for years, Olaplex is the perfect ‘reset’ for your locks. I opt for the treatment because I’ve previously bleached my hair and going for another bleaching job.

And honestly, I think I made the right choice by going for the treatment because I felt my hair being stronger (it is falling lesser) and softer too. The treatment itself was about 60 minutes long and was so rejuvenating. It costs around RM150, which is the normal price for most scalp treatments in KL so not complaining much.

Highly recommend this for those who love colouring their hair. Also, to truly enjoy the maximum benefit of the treatment I would suggest you go in for the treatment regularly, at least 2 months once. This can help strengthen your hair and keep frizz at bay.

3. Balayage Hair Colouring

I wanted to change up my look for some time now hence went with few designs in mind. After talking with the lead stylist, Geetha we agreed on going for darker brown with some light highlights. Balayage is a dye-ing technique that creates a graduated, natural-looking effect (which is exactly what I wanted).

The whole process cost about RM450 and took around four hours or so. There were multiples bleaching sessions as my previous colour was quite strong to be removed. The treatment went smooth with multiple hair washes. All of the shampoo and conditioner they used smelt so good and felt so refreshing. I was eagerly waiting to see the end result and I FREAKING LOVE IT!!!!!

It has been almost a month since my new hairdo and I can say the colour did not fade nor does my hair feel frizzy and dry (I have extremely curly hair, just saying!). It was def worth the price and the wait too. I will def go back to The Met Grand Hair Salon for my next hair colour fantasy. And highly recommend them for those who are looking to get their hair coloured without it looking too artificial and over the top!
