Korean Hair Colour Trends 2021

1. Ashy Colours

Ashy hair colours are never going out of style and they are definitely here to stay. This Korean hair colour trend is popping and has been a crowd-favourite. Ashy undertones are cool, so they flatter Asian skin. As it cancels out red and yellow tones in the hair, it makes the hair appear more vibrant. No matter the year or if it is in -trend or not, you’ll often see K-pop idols go for an ashy blonde or silver hairstyle.

2. Maple Brown

One of the top trending Korean hair colour trends this year is maple brown. K-drama lovers will notice that many actors and actresses have been sporting this shade of brown recently. Lee Dong Wook is one of them as he appeared in Tale of the Nine Tailed. This copper-cinnamon tone of brown is super wearable and is the perfect low-maintenance hair colour. It is classy, and office-friendly, so anyone can pull this look off.

3. Ear Loop Highlights/Money Piece Highlights

Chunky highlights became a trendy hairstyle as it surfed the Y2K wave into 2020. In 2021, the chunky highlights are staying in a much subtler way. Money pieces, peekaboo highlights or ear loop highlights are variations of this hair trend. Korean artists and K-pop idols have popularised ear look highlights quite a lot too. This Korean hair colour trend lightens and dyes the under-sections around your ears. This is a fun Korean hair colour trend to try if you don’t want all your locks to suffer chemical damage.

4. Dark Underlights

So, we have the phase of bleaching and highlighting the under-section of our hairs. We’ve seen the black on top, white underneath – Narcissa Malfoy look. But now, we are turning the tables upside down. This time around, we are doing dark underlights. This 90s trend is making a comeback and it is a hair colour trend that gives off powerful vibes. This is a look that will definitely make you feel more confident as the top of your mane is bleached and dyed, while the underlayers are dark and moody.

5. Pastel hair

Pastel hair colours are also a Korean hair colour trend that will never go out of style. Similar to ashy hues, pastel hair colours are quintessential among K-pop idols. When have you seen a K-pop idol NOT have pastel hair in any of their phases? Almost zero to none! So, there is no doubt that you should probably give this look a try too. A popular pastel hair colour is purple and is looking stunning on Ji Yeon. Since pastel colours fade quickly, this is your chance to experiment and try every pastel colour there is out there!

6. Rose brown hair

After having fun with your pastels and blonde, you can always switch back to a subtle rose brown hair. This Korean hair colour trend is far from basic and boring. Brunettes and brown hair colours are a classic. They are a great colour to fall back on; you can keep it for more than a week too. Furthermore, rose brown hair is pretty low maintenance and can easily add depth to your luscious mane.

7. Back to black

Ready for a dramatic change? If you’ve seen any youtube videos about girls dying their hair, one or two will be going from a level 9 blonde, to pitch black. Going back to our roots, black hair reminds us how powerful we can be in our natural black hair too. Most Asians return to black as bright colours get harder and expensive to maintain. It is safe to also say that most people that go back to black end up looking like a total baddie. So, it might be time to enter your ABG (Asian Baby Girl) baddie phase!
