Hair trends on TikTok come and go almost as quickly as a passing rumour. With every year, or even a few months, a new hair trend pops up and we can’t stop thinking about it! So what is it this time? The octopus haircut! In 2022, we seem to be focusing a lot on low-maintenance hairstyles. Seeing as not many of us want the hassle of upkeeping a high-maintenance one, this hairstyle is the perfect thing.

Previously trending haircuts on TikTok was the infamous Shag or Wolfcut. This hair trend had everyone cutting their own hair at home and while there were plenty of gorgeous results, some didn’t really go as planned! As a trend, it is no wonder the octopus haircut popped off! Considering their similarities, we like to think it’s the much more low-maintenance sister of the Wolfcut. So, let’s take a look with Beauty Insider and find out what the octopus haircut looks like!

This new trending haircut is perfect for those that still want a cut similar to the Shag, while keeping your hair long! The octopus haircut is suitable for those that still want long hair and even resembles that of a 90s sitcom character. Can you guess who? That’s right, the octopus cut definitely reminds us of the Rachel cut! The octopus haircut is also the perfect look for those that don’t want to commit to a full Shag look.

The haircut was predicted to rise in popularity by none other than Pinterest itself during its annual ‘Pinterest Predicts Report back in December of 2021. As the octopus haircut started trending on TikTok, Pinterest was sure that it was bound to take off. But don’t worry, there is nothing actually sea-related about this haircut at all! The shape of it just resembles the shape of an octopus with its rounded head and tentacle-like waves!

An evolution from the Wolfcut, the Octopus haircut is definitely the less textured version. With shorter layers at the front and longer layers at the back, you’ll easily be able to keep your long hair!

How To Style

An easy way to style your new octopus haircut is to pair it with some curtain bangs! Thanks to its shape and layering, the octopus haircut is suitable for all face shapes. Aside from that, you can also style this haircut with a face-framing fringe. People with naturally curly hair will also have the least to do when it comes to styling this hairstyle. Give your new octopus cut a slight curl and it will instantly elevate your whole look! For those with fine hair, you can use a texturising spray to help your mane a helping hand. When styling this haircut, we suggest using a rounded brush when blow-drying your hair. To create fullness on the crown of your head, curl the brush down. For the ends of your hair, create more movements in the layers by flipping them out or curling them under!
