The return of glossy and shiny lips is the most recent beauty trend that I am so grateful for. Although matte lips are a staple, I still prefer glossy lips that make my lips look soft and healthy! With so many brands trying to reformulate the perfect lip oil, Rare Beauty is one brand that took up the challenge to release a lip oil as rare as the Soft Pinch Liquid Blush. The moment Selena Gomez announced that she was launching a lip oil, I was a bit sceptical. Not only did it look distinctly different from the lip oils I was used to, but I also didn’t think anything could top Selena’s Soft Pinch Liquid Blush. But after trying it for myself? Let’s just say I have some unpopular opinions most might not agree with. Here’s my *HONEST* opinion about the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Lip Oil.

The Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Lip Oil

If you were a fan of the Clarins Lip Oil like me, then guarantee you were just as excited for the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Lip Oil. This lip oil from Selena actually got me buying a brand new lip oil on the day of its launch! With a similar price to the Clarins Lip Oil, I really wanted to test it out and build a little competition between the two to see which is the best.

According to Rare Beauty, this Soft Pinch Lip Oil is “an innovative gel-to-oil formula” that is supposed to go from a glossy start to a tinted finish. Moreover, it offers a non-sticky coating that feels super comfortable all day long. Offering the perfect dash of colour, the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Lip Oil nourishes and hydrates your lips. Leaving you with healthy and fuller-looking lips. Besides that, it is great for layering so you can control the intensity of the shade depending on your swipe! For a light natural look, one swipe is all it takes. For bolder juicy lips, layer on a few more swipes.

What I TRULY Think

From the bottom of my heart, the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Lip Oil is my everyday go-to. Although I was slightly on the fence about it initially, I’m willing to look past all of its minor flaws. Upon applying it to my lips, I could tell that it was a super lightweight formula. Not only that, it is also a surprisingly wet formula. I’m no scientist, but I’m guessing this is how Rare Beauty countered the sticky formula most lip glosses and lip oils have. As the product mentions, it really isn’t sticky at all. No matter how many layers I swipe on my lips, it doesn’t feel thick or sticky! Besides that, I’m also a fan of the minty, cooling sensation it offers upon application. For me personally, the sensation also lasts quite a while which I love. You can probably tell I love snacking on mints and chewing gum. I know some people find the cooling sensation a bit intense, but it’s a perfect match for me! Not to mention, it leaves my lips looking smooth, healthy and extremely hydrated. What more could I ask for? Did I also mention that it has a doe-shaped applicator that pops up when you twist it? Talk about convenience!

After raving about the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Lip Oil, I do have some slightly unpopular opinions. In terms of it being a lip oil, I believe that it acts more like a lip tint and gloss. So can the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Lip Oil truly be considered a lip oil? I’ll leave that to the professionals. Personally, it’s giving Benetint vibes, but with a thicker formula. Besides that, I also find that the colour does wear off quite easily. Especially when eating and drinking, which it claimed to stay on throughout! Yes, I know it’s almost impossible to find a lip product that doesn’t wash off once you start eating. But I expected its life span to last a little longer you know? Now, this could maybe be because the shade is similar to my natural lip colour, but I honestly don’t think so. Even though it leaves a tint, I feel that it washes away quickly during meals as well. I find myself having to reapply several coats throughout the day.

Insider’s Rating

Overall, I give it a 4 out of 5 because it is still a really good lip product that everyone should try.

Pros:

  • Cooling sensation
  • Hydrated lips
  • Nice colour payoff
  • Great for layering and control

Cons:

  • Not long-lasting
  • Stains easily
  • Slightly expensive
