With Crabtree and Everlyn’s Canadian operations filing for bankruptcy at the end of 2018, the global retail of body, fragrance and home care products has seen many of its stores closing around the world recently. Stuck to the window of the now emptied-out shop in Bangsar Village II is the notice to their customers about their new future direction.

Citing changing consumer landscape and online competition, physical stores in Malaysia will, according to the notice, be closing in the next few months.  Shoppers could expect discounts by as much as 70% off its merchandise. A brand known for its botanical formulations and beloved by many, the closing of the twelve stores in Malaysia will be sorely missed. Products made with fruit, flower and plant essence includes the popular Evelyn Rose range and the nourishing products made with argon oil.

Crabtree and Everlyn is owned by the Nan Hai Corporation since 2016. It was previously owned by Malaysia’s Kepong Berhad between the years 1996 and 2009. A month before the bankruptcy filing by the Canadian arm was the announcement that the Brand is closing its manufacturing and distribution operation in Woodstock. Woodstock produces and distributes about 90% of its products.

Not much is official with regards to the brand’s overall global future direction, on whether there will be a restructuring or refocusing of the brand, or otherwise. With its manufacturing and distribution arm ceasing operations, future production could come from third party suppliers.

With discounts as much as 70%, it’s time to shop.
