Body Care Routine

1. Exfoliate

The first step to a good body care routine is to exfoliate. Body scrubs become your new best friend and you can most definitely pick the best-smelling one to use! There are a ton of different exfoliators on the market ranging from gentle to harsher on the skin. Exfoliating is also the step in a body care routine where all your dead skin cells fall off. What’s more, is that there are different body exfoliating scrubs such as sugar and salt scrubs. No matter which one you pick, always look for ones with Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs). To help improve your skin’s texture when exfoliating, look for acid exfoliators. Besides that, exfoliation of the skin can also help reduce appearances of body acne such as backne and give your skin a glowing look. Furthermore, exfoliation is great for cleaning the sebum and oil from pores.

2. Cleanse

As do all self-care routines need, cleansing your body is an important step in a body care routine. We are not just talking about normal or cheap body wash you get at the dollar store. We are talking about picking out the right cleanser for your body. The best cleansers for your body are always gentle cleansers. This is because harsh ingredients can aggravate and irritate your skin. Causing skin concerns such as backne or acne anywhere else on your body. If you have sensitive skin, it is also best that you stray away from ingredients that are irritating and cause dryness like perfumes, dyes and sulphate. Ingredients such as ceramides, plant oils and shea butter, on the other hand, are quite moisturising on the skin. But if you are specifically targeting acne on your body, look for cleansers containing benzoyl peroxide, tea tree oil, or salicylic acid. All of which can combat acne and oiliness.

3. Moisturise

What’s the most important step of a skincare routine that even oily skin people can’t miss? That’s right, it is moisturising! Just like how the skin on your face needs hydrating, the skin on your body needs it to. Splashing water onto it twice a day is not going to cut it for moisturising. In order for your skin and body to stay healthy, you need to stay hydrated and moisturised. Aside from that, moisturising your skin can also trap moisture inside your skin. A body care routine wouldn’t be complete without you moisturising your skin! For those that are prone to acne, a lotion moisturiser might be a better option. Since we are building a body care routine, you can use moisturisers with heavier ingredients. This is because they don’t clog up pores as they do on your face. So, ingredients like coconut and almond oil are a green light!

4. Oiling

Okay, we are not saying you should dip yourself in oil and fry. We are saying that a body care routine would benefit from you using body oils. Body oils have the benefit to help calm and soothe your skin. Not only do they provide nourishment to your skin, but they can be quite versatile too. Whether the skin on your body needs help with treating acne, boosting skin cell renewal or healing, body oils can help with all of that. Body oils are also enriched with vitamins A, B1, B2 and B3, along with fatty acids omega 3 and 6. These fatty acids are essential to our body and a few body oils even have anti-inflammatory properties!

5. Multipurpose Balm

A multipurpose balm is great for dry spots such as your elbows, ankles, or even when your skin needs a little nourishment. Get a balm that works wonders on both your skin and hair so when a moisturiser isn’t enough, you can get a dose of extreme hydration. For those with dry skin, it would be great if you carried this around with you too! Be sure to look out for moisturising ingredients such as shea butter, coconut oil, almond oil, cocoa oil and more.

6. Treatment

Sometimes, after a long day out, we come home, do our skincare routine and decide that we’ll put on a face mask today to treat our skin. That is exactly what a body care routine needs as well. It wouldn’t be a pamper sesh and body care routine without you treating your skin to a few treatments! You’ll want a body treatment that is moisturising to help with flaky and dry skin, Furthermore, ingredients such as retinoids, antioxidants and vitamin C are quite beneficial for your skin. Retinols are great for skin renewal and promoting collagen production. Besides that, treatment on your body can increase the thickness of your skin. Thus, making cellulite less visible to the human eye.

7. Fragrance

Lastly, smelling nice and fresh is something we all need! The way you smell can definitely liven up your mood. Mostly because no one wants to smell stinky. Especially after a body care routine that is supposed to leave you feeling refreshed and clean! So, be sure to get your favourite scent out and spray it onto your body as the last and final step of your body care routine.
