I have a huge obsession with lashes. For me, the longer the better. That’s why I have an on and off relationship with mascaras because I couldn’t find one that could satisfy my liking. I’m talking long, thick, matte lashes. Until I discovered fake lashes a few years back. But then again, it was time consuming. It can be irritating to apply fake lashes especially if you’re rushing somewhere. Don’t get me wrong, lash extensions are great but they tend to fall off faster and personally, it’s pricey as heck. What Is Lash Keratin Treatment? 

A keratin lash lift is a cosmetic procedure in which an esthetician “lifts” and curls your lashes from base to tip using a chemical solution. This procedure allows you to rotate the whole length of the lash, giving the impression of a longer, fuller and thicker-looking without the need of lash extensions. Though sometimes, Keratin lash lifts are often referred to as “lash perms,” however these words aren’t as often used among lash artists or beauty salons. Because lash perm treatment usually uses an alkaline-like solution to curl the lashes but keratin treatment obviously uses keratin. It is important to emphasise on the keratin word when you describe what kind of treatment you want when you book an appointment. 

Keratin Treatment Vs. Lash Perm

These serve almost similar procedures but are not identical. Lash perm treatment, as mentioned above uses alkaline-like ingredients, meanwhile keratin treatment emphasises on the keratin formula. In result, keratin treatment should be less damaging to your lashes as opposed to lash perm. Your lashes were made of hairs, and just like the rest of the hair on top of your head, keratin treatment is super duper important to restore stronger strands, and helps protect the integrity of your lashes. Not only does it help to give you a fuller lashes look but also help to install protein from within. I mean, if you prefer lash perm treatment, go ahead. But if you’re anything like me, who prefers a more matte and thicker look, then opt for keratin. 

Does Lash Keratin Treatment Hurt?

Not really. I mean, everyone tolerates levels of pain differently. For me, it doesn’t hurt nor give me any stinging effects. Maybe because I was used to my extensions treatment. But there are indeed few people complaining about stinging or slight pain throughout the treatment. My advice is to keep your eyes closed during the whole process to make sure no oil products or formula get in contact with your eyes. For beginners, you might feel slight discomfort but so far, I have never experienced any severe pain or stinging experience, so you’re in for good. Nothing to worry about. But we do encourage you to voice out to your eyelash stylist if you start to feel discomfort around your eyes. Also, do let them know if you have any allergies.
