Have you ever bought a product, thinking it would be just okay, but then you use it and then you can’t stop using it because it’s so good? Well, the essence Get BIG! Lashes Volume Curl Mascara was that product for me. I technically didn’t even buy it myself, I just stole it from my sister, but don’t tell her that. It’s been a few months since I first tried it, and I’ve barely used other mascaras because nothing else compares. However, it does have a few drawbacks, and we’ll explore the entirety of it in this review.

If you have short and sparse lashes, you’re going to love this one. It does exactly what it says – give you big, fluttery lashes without the clumps. Literally, one swipe is all it takes to have jet black, thick lashes that really hold its curl, and I seriously love this mascara.

I normally will layer two kinds of mascara; one to volumise my lashes, and one to lengthen. I don’t feel the need to do that with the essence Get BIG! Lashes Volume Curl Mascara, as it really my eyes pop. I also don’t feel like I need to do more than one or two coats, as it really does the job at coating my lashes with just enough mascara.

The essence Get BIG! Lashes Volume Curl Mascara is vegan, cruelty-free, opthalmologically-tested, oil-free, paraben-free, fragrance-free, so it pretty much checks all the boxes. What else could you ask for in a mascara? I also love the fact that it’s affordable, and available in drugstores and pharmacies.

My Experience with the essence Get BIG! Lashes Volume Curl Mascara

Like I said, I’ve barely used any other mascara since I started using the essence Get BIG! Lashes Volume Curl Mascara. I’ve noticed that my lashes stay curled, even after hours of wearing it. However, if notice that your lashes start to droop, here’s a trick: don’t apply mascara on the roots. I know, we’ve all been told to apply mascara on the roots to help keep the curl, but in my experience, my lashes always stay curled for much longer if I only apply mascara from the middle onwards.

This mascara is jet black, and has a giant wand. Seriously, it has the fattest wand of any mascara I own, and I own many mascaras. This was a little annoying at first, NGL, but after the small learning curve I’ve learnt to navigate my way around my eyes to use this mascara. Another hot tip: curl your lashes, apply mascara, clean it up if necessary, then eyeshadow and eyeliner. You’re welcome.

Another small drawback of this mascara is that although the curl stays in tact, it does smudge a little after a few hours of wearing it. It’s not waterproof, but I’ve walked through rain with this mascara and it didn’t budge one bit, but all the blinking does leave marks just underneath my lashes. I’ve learnt, however, that the way to get around this is to apply a small bit of powder just under the eyes. Be sure to test out the powder first under flash photography though, lest you become flashback Mary.

Removing the mascara is pretty easy, too. I usually just use micellar water or a cleansing balm, and it comes right off. No scrubbing or tugging required.

Listen, I’m not one to wear rose-coloured glasses, but the red flags on the essence Get BIG! Lashes Volume Curl Mascara are definitely not big enough to stop me from using it. Albeit it does have a few drawbacks, the pros definitely outweigh the cons. If you want a good mascara that gives both volume and length, then I definitely recommend essence Get BIG! Lashes Volume Curl Mascara. Although it does have a small learning curve, you’ll get used to it pretty quick and there are ways around its drawbacks.
